How to Apply
NYU School of Medicine participates in the AMCAS application process for both the M.D. and MD/PhD programs.
Step 1: Complete AMCAS application.
Complete the AMCAS application at http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas
Deadline- October 15th.
You will hear from us via e-mail shortly after we receive your verified application from AMCAS.
Step 2: Submit NYU Secondary Application.
- Once your application is received by NYU School of Medicine, we will invite you to complete an on-line secondary application (Due December 1st). If you are applying to the MD/PhD program (MSTP), please refer to their website at http://mdphd.med.nyu.edu/apply
- A $100 non-refundable application fee is required at the time of submission, payable by credit card only.
- Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we ask that if you have questions while filling out the secondary, you refer to our “Frequently Asked Questions” web site before calling the Admissions Office.
- Applicants are required to submit a premedical committee appraisal letter or two letters from individual professors who taught you in a course (at least one science). Additional letters are welcome. All letters must be sent through AMCAS. Letters sent to the office by mail will NOT be accepted.
- Applicants to the MD/PhD program are required to submit the letters of recommendations above, in addition to letters from all research mentors through AMCAS.
- The MCAT is required for admission to NYU School of Medicine. The test is now offered 24 times a year. For the 2011 entering class, the latest date that you can take the MCAT and still be considered for admissions is September 11th, 2010. Scores cannot be older than 3 years at the time of application.
- NYU's Secondary Application must be submitted to the Committee on Admissions before December 1st. Letters of recommendation sent via regular mail will NOT be accepted.
- Applicants are informed of their status via email. You can expect an email 4-6 weeks after you submit your secondary application. To avoid missing an email from us, be sure to unblock our address so that our messages do not go to your “junk email” box: admissions@nyumc.org
- Once you submit your secondary application, you will be able to login and check your status online throughout the application process.
Interviews
Our interview season begins in October and concludes at the end of January. Interviews are offered via email beginning in September. The email will indicate a time period within which you are requested to schedule your interview. You will be asked to call our office in order to set-up your interview appointment. If you live at a considerable distance from New York City, we will try to schedule your interview outside of the given time period.
There is a hosting web site implemented at the start of the interview season for applicants who want to make arrangements to stay with one of our medical students. This web site, along with login instructions, will be sent to you in your interview invitation email.
When you come for your interview, you will check-in at the Admissions Office. On the day of the interview, please plan for the following activities:
- A one-on-one, open-file interview with a member of our faculty, which will last approximately 30 minutes.
- An hour-long lunch, which will include a presentation about the school, and the opportunity to speak to current students.
- An hour-long tour of the Medical School.
- A 30 minute tour of Bellevue Hospital.
