Admissions Requirements
Each NYU School of Medicine applicant must have completed:
- NYU SOM requires at least three years of college work but recommends completion of four years of undergraduate study and a baccalaureate degree.
- Applicants must have attended an accredited college or university; courses taken outside approved colleges of liberal arts will not be credited toward admission requirements.
Normally, credit is not given for courses taken in schools of dentistry, nursing, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy.
The following courses must be included in undergraduate study:
- English—1 year (two years are recommended)
- Inorganic Chemistry- 1 year (including laboratory)
- Organic Chemistry - 1 year (including laboratory)*
- General Physics- 1 year (including laboratory)
- General Biology- 1 year (including laboratory)
Recommended are additional courses in the biological and quantitative sciences. Excellence in the premedical sciences constitutes a basic requirement for selection. However, no preference is given to those with science concentrations.
* One semester of Organic Chemistry plus one semester of Biochemistry can be used to satisfy this requirement.
